Dr. Longcope specializes in laparoscopic surgery and instructs surgeons across the country and around the globe on performing this advanced technique. He also has a special interest in anorectal disease and surgery for inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis), diverticulitis, and colorectal cancer.

Dr. David Longcope grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts. He graduated Cum Laude from Colby College in Waterville, Maine where he majored in Chemistry. He went on to medical school training at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. From there, Dr. Longcope completed his 5 years of general surgery training at State University of New York in Syracuse and then did an additional year of fellowship training in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the acclaimed Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.

Dr. Longcope was in practice for 6 years in New Orleans as a colon and rectal surgeon and also served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at Tulane University. Because of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Dr. Longcope was forced to permanently move his life and practice to Colorado, and he has adapted well to the Colorado lifestyle. When he is not at work he can be found spending time with his wife, 14-year-old daughter, and 12-year-old son. His interests include tennis, biking, and running, having completed numerous marathons and ultramarathons. He is a four-time finisher of the Leadville 100 Trail Run.
